General Conference Hike

Since we moved to Centerville, we have had a tradition of taking a hike between sessions.  I think we might have  missed a couple of sessions since we moved here, but the fall canyons were just a little too tempting this year.  The big excitement this year is that we thought Pepper to be mature enough to take the adventure with us.  You would have thought this was a new baby that we were taking on her first trip to the zoo-given the amount of excitement that each child took in watching Pepper look out the window, explore, and generally experience the mountains for the first time.  It really was cute.
Landen was beside himself with pride and fatherly care as he guided/half carried Pepper down the path.  It was an incredibly beautiful walk, staying close to the river and offering at ever turn the dramatic displays of fall.  Breck took the camera and I've included some of her my favorites of her many shots.  I even gathered (in memory of my friend Nicki) a huge bouquet of leaves to put in a vase on my table.  They are still gorgeous.

Talia likes to dress up for every occasion and is even happier when she can dress up another sister.  Here is an outfit she put together with Capri for the occasion.

Rhyse, though getting leggy enough and tall enough to walk by herself has yet to truly become a hiker.  She did her best, though her goldfish were often such a distraction that it was quicker to carry her than let her meander.

We went home, refreshed, tired, grateful for the beauty and gift of fall, but also ready for our other tradition-scones!!! Landen is an awesome scone cooker and we delighted in having our own strawberry jam ( in the past I used to splurge and buy some for this occasion) to put on top.  I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see my kids outside enjoying nature.  I love to see them point out a fish or an especially spectacular tree, or some brilliant color moss- wanting to share their discovery with all of us.  I love how they, like me, find such joy, and excitement and peace in water-how compelled we all are to water.  I'm very grateful to live in such a lovely area.  I want to get there more.

I have just LOVED your last two posts!! The egg excitement and the draw to the mountains both just make me LONG to come and visit right now. I have no fall bouquet this year...and just don't think it is going to happen (despite the fact that I cleared a place on the mantel).

I will stand and say I do like to pretend that eggs just come from the store. Eventually I hope I will need to change my mind about that ;-)

Miss you tuns SO GLAD you blog!!! And once soccer and lacrosse end at the end of the month I will FINALLY have days open so we can come and make a girl visit!!!
