Capriel as Nephi ("you know the one who built the boat")
This week started of with a bang as we celebrated our first Book of Mormon party. Our goal was to finish the Book of Mormon last year, but it took us a couple of extra months. We just finished at the beginning of March. By the time we finished Capriel was pulling her full share of the verses and wanting to read more! It is so fun to have her be a reader! The above picture and the following pics are all of our Book of Mormon characters-a requirement to come to the Book of Mormon party. This was a much anticipated event, something that some children spent much time in preparing and anticipating for. As is to be expected with our family when something like this happens we had fun, drama, and cauos. But mostly Fun! Rhyse as an angel-Fairy (you have to notice the fancy necklace to get the full meaning behind her ensemble as that is the most important and in fact only part of her costume)
Landen as Mormon (notice the golden plates)
Craig as a blind version of Alma
Talia as Noah (for a fun treat-pull out the picture of King Noah in his court as Abinidi speaks to him and you will notice some amazing similarities in His and Talia's outfits. Pepper was the absent cheetah that sat at King Noah's feet) Don't miss the shoes
Me as Ammon!
Landen teaching the kids to make pencil bow and arrows
Breck as Shiz (Isn't that how you've always imagined him?)
Breck was in charge of a scavenger hunt for the golden plates (choc. coins and golden wheat thins) and surprised us again with her clever writing skills.
Rhyse quietly playing with her bow and oblivious to all the other activities going on around her.
Craig and Capriel created a fun Iron Rod activity. It was harder than I thought to travel through the house and yard than I thought!
Book of Mormon puzzle (Talia was a champ and Capriel was totally understanding the process)
Every one shared a favorite BoM story and Talia also provided some awesome Book of Mormon treats (I think they were the clear stones that the Brother of Jared used to light his barges -AKA muddy buddies), Craig tested us with some Book of Mormon Trivia and I contributed some Book of Mormon humor.
Oh, I almost forgot-Rhyse made the Ammonade aka lemonade which was a very exciting event.
One of Breck's latest healthy dishes -a black bean burrito!
Her eyes are so TOTALLY shut:)
I was lucky enough to be able to help Capriel's class paint the scenery for their upcoming opera. I loved being with her and I was sure glad I wore my painting clothes. Capriel and I and another little girl painted this barn-no really they completely painted it with me overseeing. The woman assisting was very professional. When we thought we were completely done she had them go back and outline ever color connection in black. I could see Capriel's little brain nearly shut down with lack of patience but she stuck with it and did a great job! I love her and her happy impetuous personality.
Other highlights: After a false start last week (my recommend had expired and Landen's was incomplete) Craig Breck and I got to take Landen to the temple for the first time! It was a fun and special experience. To make it even more meaningful both kids were able to do a family name that we had received from Grandma Winder and Grandpa Harrison. It was a special to feeling to see my little boy walk down into that water that reached nearly to his neck and be baptized by his good tender father. He looked like he was floating to the top on the first baptism, but after that he seemed to figure out how to stay anchored and did great. We are so proud of him for being worthy and willing to serve in this way.
Talia made a basket at one of her games this week! At the beginning of this game (most of the opposing team were probably taller than me and outweighed me significantly) she was very nervous, prancy and not sure of herself or what to do, but after some time, all of a sudden something clicked and she found her confidence and started playing aggressively. She ended of making one of the baskets in a game that was like 45-6. I was so proud of her.
Also, this Monday she was able to play int he honors strings recital. This was held on a nice stage and with extremely talented string players. Talia was nervous. I'll never forget going to the warm up room and hearing the absolutely crazy combination of sounds that was happening as all these musicians warmed up and if you can believe it tuned their instruments at the same time. Talia had a little brain cramp and forgot a part during her piece but as soon as she figured out where she was she resummed her focus and continued to provide a beautiful performance. I was so proud of her poise and composure. I accompanied her and totally blew my part-another reminder that I am a behind the scenes person and that like everyone else I need to really practice if I want to perform well.
We had fun watching the bass, cello's-we'll never forget that flamboyant celloist that broke half of his bow hairs during his passionate and dramatic performance!
Breck is going to accompany Capriel for her book one recital and has already learned all the pieces. Her sightreading is really coming! She continues to spend great focus and energy on her healthy diet and I'm thinking it is about time I joined her!
The sun came this week and melted all our snow. We abandoned many a chore and spent the time watching the snow melt, discovering exciting and disgusting things beneath the snow, watching for new signs of life (like the shoots of my tulips-that the chickens promptly ate) and just absorbing the sun and the potential for motion. We were lucky enough to have Brigette and her kids here as well half of the week which made it even more fun to be outside with their active and inquisitive and tenacious little persons. Saturday was spend the entire day outside repairing, cleaning up, organizing, pruning, and just being. Today we are all a little sore, burned, and fatigued from the increased activity level. Today it is cold and windy, but I have decided I am done with winter! I'm packing the boots and snow pants away and looking forward to a new season!
Landen had a dr. appointment this week for his knees. His xrays showed knees that are still not ready to run on. This was a huge disappointment, but he is already moving on with new exercises to strengthen his legs and a renewed focus on his swimming. We love him dearly and are proud of how he is dealing with this very difficult experience.
As the sun melts the snow Rhyse has been realizing that her birthday is approaching. She has been planning her party and inviting EVERYONE (home teachers, store checkers, friends and family to come) Mostly I think she is planning on chocolate cake-which she has assigned Breck to make. Rhyse can spend hours and hours in her pretend worlds. Often she hasn't even been eating because she is so involved her her creative plays. She adores friends, is highly emotional and can be extremely contrary. She also has been staying up extremely late, and telling me that she is tired at times. ( I don't think any of my other children have ever done that)

I love the Book of Mormon party idea! I got a good laugh from all the commentaries about the pictures.
