For those of you who don't know, we recently added a baby to our family. Not the baby girl that has been anticipated now for nine months, but a baby standard poodle girl named Scout. She arrived at our home Saturday morning and is quickly rocking our world. She is very cute and loved by all. We are crate training her and that is extremely time consuming and required immense commitment from all of us. Wish us luck!

Capriel is quickly getting used to Scout. Since she is also toilet training I think she feels a bond with her. When she hears her whinning in her crate, she'll rush up and tell us that Scout needs to use the toilet. She even wanted her to earn fruit snacks after a successful trip to the field.

The reason we chose this particular breed is because it is the only one that Landen hasn't had any allergies with. Standard poodles get pretty big and are considered extremely bright, easy to train, and people orientented. Last night she slept in her crate in our bedroom and we wished that she wasn't quite so people needy. We figure that this is just getting us ready for the baby to come in three weeks. THe transition will be much easier after the bad nights, constant care, and efforts that Scout is going to take. If nothing else, it is providing us with a lot of humorous moments as we look around and wonder how we could be so crazy.

Breck has loved this dog much more than we anticipated. She is very diligent at taking it to "potty", loves to brush and groom her and even bath her. She already took her on a walk and introduced her to all the neighbors. We are hoping that this dog will bring our family together a little more, teach our children responsibility and affection, and force me to take the time this summer to just sit down and watch and enjoy the kids and the dog. It's too easy to just keep working while the kids are playing and not really enjoy them.
Oh, and by the way, we will not be cutting the hair with the standard poodle haircut that is typically thought of.

Breck finished up her soccer season. For the coaching and practice that she has had, she has made significant progress. We are hoping to get her on a better team next year.
This is Landen's first guitar recital. He was nervous beyond belief, but was able to pull himself together and play very nicely. We were proud of him for doing something so frightening. He also tried out for the U-10 soccer league this week. It was a very intensive physically challenging event and he came home completely exhausted. It was good for him to see some really good players and to realize that there is going to be a lot of competition for him next year if they decide to put him on the league.

Wow! I have to admit the poodle came as a shock. Sabina and a poodle- really? Actually my love for poodles has increased this year. Our neighbors across the street is a poodle trainer. She has two, a full grown one and a little baby one. My desk faces the window that looks onto their house and ever since the weather has warmed up I have enjoyed watching the dogs frolic around in the yard. I'll have to ask her for some advice on training them. I loved Landen's guitar. Every time I watch your kids perform I think, motherhood seems all the more enticing.Love you.
How fun to have a dog! We have been thinking about getting one for Bryce but I'm sure we'll keep thinking about it for another few years yet. Poodles are great because they don't shed or cause allergies, right? We are happy to hear that Brecklyn is sticking with soccer, and Landen's guitar playing was superb!
P.S. Don't worry, I haven't gone organic and I support both pesticide and herbicide use; I just thought it was humorous that Lauren happened to be reading a book about organic gardening right when we were facing the infestation crises. I cut off the branches because supposedly that is an even more efficient way to get rid of them than using pesticide.
You are so brave and a tad crazy...a PUPPY? And, a newborn within 3 wks of each other? Well, you've got 4 excellent helpers at home (plus Craig), so you'll be fine. My most emotional comment is this: Do we need to donate some $$ so that Lan doesn't have to wear shorts from the Evil Empire? Please. Expect a package of BYU-blue shorts soon. ;-)
Thx also for the reassurance of no-typical-poodle-do. Goodonya. We love & miss you a lot.
