Despite the poor quality of this video, I had to share it because it was such a fun experience for us. Breck's teacher gave all her students a duet piece, paired them up, and told them they could dress up to depict the mood or story of the piece. Breck's piece was titled, "Brightwood" barn and so she quickly decided that she wanted to wear the size 5 cow costume we got years ago. Her partner agreed to dress as a cowgirl and they proceeded to learn their piece. As the night arrived for the recital we pulled up to the hall which is held in the back of this music store selling pianos that cost 30-40,000. Needless to say this was a nice place. We, believe it or not, were early so we waited in the car for a few minutes to cut down on the time that I had to control the two little girls and keep them from touching a piano. People began to trickle in, and Breck in her cow costume noticed that everyone was dressed in formal, nice recital clothes. She became a little agitated, and we began to wonder if we had made a mistake. As people walked past the van she got some strange looks. All the while Breck is half embarrassed, half giddy about being so different and so noticed. Eventually, after seeing not one dressed up person I tell her that we have to go in. So we go in and sit on the back row so that a quick escape is possible and our fears are confirmed. The room is filled with dresses and suits and tidy hair. Not one cowgirl in site. So Breck leans forward in her seat and with her hand covering her face "hides" from the crowd. Her teacher gets us to begin the recital and says, "I just want you to know that we have a cow in the audience. (THe entire audience turns around to look at her) She is feeling a little embarrassed, but I wanted you to know she is dressed that way as part of her peice. THe recital began and with the exception of a prim Mom and daughter duet who donned tinfoil crowns a top their heads, Breck is the ONLY one dressed up. Worse, her partner is nowwhere to be seen. Prior to the start of the recital Breck overheard a girl and her Mom in the back. The girl was anxious and kind of fussing about how nervous she was. The Mom whispered, "Well at least you're not dressed up like a cow." Breck, though a little embarrassed was also basking in her uniqueness. Eventually, a lovely cowgirl showed up late and they took to the stage. Here is there performance. It was a great exercize in working together. For a minute we thought the other girl might just play her part all by herself. She is a high energy, perfectionist, controlling personality, and I guess each time she pointed where to start, she did it so fast that Breck in her panic to get back together couldn't really register. Anyway, she did great, had quite an experience, and stood out in a crowd like she always wants to. As they were taking pictures after, people were saying things like, "make room for the cow" and "honey move forward a little, the cow is blocking her face." Breck laughed and laughed and got such a kick out of the night. She is a lot of fun.

I just LOVE this story! This has happened in our home before and it can be so horrible to be the only one who did just what was asked, and at the same time can be so fun to get the attention and notice for being different. Keep the smile on! Thanks for sharing this fun experience. Nicki
I love it! Good Job Breck!!!
Best story I've read in a long time. The question is, who should be laughing at whom? I say, better to be a cow than a sheep.
Your piece really Mooo-ved me!! Great job. I love to hear you play the piano.
